LE COQ SPORTIF CYCLING TEAM ON THE ROADS OF CORSICA

25.06.2013
Team du coq

On the third weekend of May, the Italian (L'Umo Col Martello), Spanish (Barceloneta Bikes) and French team (Drop-IT) du coq’s met in Corsica to discover the 3rd stage of the 100e Tour de France, from Ajaccio to Calvi. A dream ride for any road cyclists.

In this exceptional setting, the le coq sportif teams tested the first edition of the Cycling Performance collection, a unique line offering cycling lovers products as qualitative as the Tour de France champions’ and professional cyclists’ equipment.

Far from Le Tour de France cyclists’ nutritional concerns, the teams shared a delicious traditional dinner and local beer the day before the race.

The day starts early with a training race on the Sanguinaires road until the official starting point in Ajaccio. Payback time : breakfast under the sun.

Agenda for the day : 10 runners, 158 km, 4 challenges :
1. San Bastiano pass....... 3.4km uphill - 4.6% - category 4
2. San Martino pass....... 7.5km uphill - 5.4% - category3
3. Porto hill....... 2km uphill - 6.4% - category 3
4. Marsolino pass....... 3.3km uphill - 8.1% - category 2

At the top of San Bastiano pass, the weather starts being threatening : time to put on cuffs before going downhill. Reaching the second pass (San Martino), the runners have to take out their waterproof windbreakers to protect themselves from the rain.

The Sun is back. Temperature gets high fast. It is hard for the runners to resist the urge to stop for a while to admire the exceptional view. Indeed, cyclism is also about taking time to appreciate the fantastic surrounding landscapes you go through.

The last downhill race takes place under heavy rain. Some of the team members put on an adapted gear to avoid getting a cold. The group is now stretching out.

The Marsolino pass is a real struggle for the whole team, but once crossed, the sun welcomes the runners in Calvi. The Balagne shows its most glorious face, as if celebrating the end of a very special journey.
