Tomorrow will start the 68th edition of La Vuelta a España, the third Grand Tour in the pro cycling calendar after Le Tour de France and the Giro.
The Vuelta will start in Rias Baixas (in Galicia) and before the arrival in Madrid on September the 15th, riders will go through 21 stages and more than 3 300 kilometers.
Since last year, La Vuelta has been turned into a very distinctive race. Yes, it's all about mountains and climbs, with 13 mountain stages, including 11 summit arrivals that make of the Grand Spanish Tour one of the toughest road race in the world. The brave riders will have to climb the famous L'Alto de l'Angliru again this year, where many had to put their foot on the ground last year.
Would you mind a little forecast for this year potential winners ?
Among the favorites, only pure climbers seems the right riders to bet on and we then can't avoid Vincenzo NIBALI (Astana – ITA), Joaquim RODRIGUEZ (Katusha – SPA), Thibaut PINOT (FDJ – FRA), Rigoberto URAN (Sky – COL) and Bauke MOLLEMA (Belkin – NED).
As official sponsor of La Vuelta a España, le coq sportif will provide equipment to the race leaders:
- The Red Jersey : worn by the leader of the general ranking (Alberto Contador in 2012)
- The Blue-dotted-jersey, rebuilt this year with different sizes of blue dots : on the shoulder of the best climber (Simon Clarke in 2012)
- The green jersey : for the best sprinter (Alejandro Valverde in 2012)
- The white jersey : leader of the combined ranking, a mix of the 3 other classifications (Alejandro Valverde in 2012)
