C’était une autre époque, un autre football, une autre manière de vivre la compétition. C’était au siècle dernier. Un temps pas franchement lointain et qui semble parfois révolu. La Coupe du monde faisait déjà vibrer la planète entière mais pas tourner les têtes ni les machines à billets. Les joueurs entraient sur le terrain comme on part à la guerre. Ils avaient des personnalités et des destins extraordinaires. Glorieux, pour l’Italien Paolo Rossi ou l’Argentin Diego Maradona. Tragique pour Ndaye Mulamba, le capitaine des Léopards du Zaïre, première équipe d’Afrique noire à se qualifier pour un Mondial, dont l’existence a été brisée par Mobutu. Ils s’arrangeaient parfois avec les règles, portaient des shorts trop courts et des maillots trop larges. C’étaient pour certains des mauvais garçons. Mais qui jouaient comme des anges. Et qui étaient capables de convertir un stade entier par la grâce de petits-ponts hiératiques ou de piquettes surnaturelles. Le sport était leur religion. Et Le Coq croyait en eux. Si la marque les célèbre aujurd’hui, c’est qu’elle cultive toujours, trente ans plus tard, cette autre idée du sport…

En 1974, Les Léopards du Zaïre ont enflammé la planète foot en remportant la CAN et en se qualifiant pour la Coupe du monde. Comme l’Italie, championne du monde en 82 et l’Argentine,sacrée en 86, ces équipes resteront à jamais les symboles d’un football authentique.

Ndaye Mulamba, réfugié mais pas oublié


Dans le coeur des Congolais, il restera à jamais Mutumbula. Le Mutumbula, c’est un croquemitaine. Et si ses fans l’ont surnommé comme cela, c’est que sur le terrain, Ndaye Mulamba ne fait qu’une bouchée des gardiens.
L’attaquant vedette des Léopards est l’artisan de la qualification pour la Coupe du monde mais surtout celui de la victoire à la CAN 1974, durant laquelle il inscrit 9 buts. Un record qui tient toujours, 36 ans plus tard…

Véritable gloire nationale, il poursuit sa carrière au Vita Kinshasa, le plus grand club du Zaïre, jusque 1988. Après avoir porté haut les couleurs de son pays, il va pourtant être réduit à néant par Mobutu. Parce qu’il refuse de lui remettre une médaille décernée par la Confédération du Football Africain en 1994, il est sauvagement agressé par des hommes de mains du tyran, qui tuent son fils sous ses yeux et le laissent pour mort. Ravagé par ce drame, il s’exile en Afrique du Sud,laissant derrière lui toute sa famille.

Depuis près de quinze ans, il tente de survivre dans les townships du Cap, là-même où se joueront dans quelques jours des matches de la Coupe du monde 2010…

Remember two years ago, Yannick Noah’s son a brand new member of Le Coq Sportif team joined the legendary Chicago Bulls, know the worldwide as the home of the just-as-legendary Michael Jordan.
