Zaïre 74 Collection
In the 70’s Le Coq Sportif was the partner of 80% of the African football teams. At this period of time none of them ever achieved to qualify for the football world cup. It was a thing done when in 1974 the Zaire national team, under an incredible social and political climate in the times of dictator Mobutu Sese Seko managed to enter in the history by being the first ever black African team to qualify for the final round of a world cup. Le Coq Sportif was the partner of this team. In memory of its great, courageous, passionate journey for the qualification and at the occasion of the first ever world cup in the African continent the Zaire 74 collection has been created.

Joakim Noah starts the season with a giant step
The NBA season has just began and our favourite, Joakim Noah playing a pivoting role at the heart of the Chicago Bulls and not lost anytime getting himself noticed. Remember two years ago, Yannick Noah’s son a brand new member of Le Coq Sportif team joined the legendary Chicago Bulls, know the worldwide as the home of the just-as-legendary Michael Jordan.
At the end of 2007 French and International media had the chance to meet Joakim Noah in his new home of Chicago; as he played his first NBA matches. Video reminder here
Two years and three exclusive « Le Coq Sportif » models later (sneakers made exclusively for Joakim Noah) ; Joakim Noah meets with Some of the top French media. On the eve of a friendly match against Utah, Joakim talks about his close relationship with Le Coq Sportif, his father and the brand new sneaker – highly technical yet with an old-school look. The sneakers designed with the complicity of Yooks, Joakim’s nickname.
A real tribute to his father Yannick, who won Roland Garros wearing Le Coq Sportif; Joakim’s sneakers are directly inspired by the Noah Comp, the victorious tennis shoe from 1983. This inspiration means the shoes does not look like a classic basketball shoe, but rather more old school despite the number of complex technical qualities cleverly hidden in the sole of the cushion of the seemingly simple shoe.

Qui c’est celui là ? It’s Pierre Vassiliu in 1974
This guys use to wear Le Coq Sportif when is was training for some sort of sports in the 70’s, we are pretty sure of that !
« Qui c’est celui là ? » literally means « Who is this guy ? ».
The song is about a guy everyone is questioned about since he looks too cool and is then a menace for other guys’ girls.
Pierre Vassiliu is introduced by our late Jacques Martin, a famous and major French TV host from the 70’s to the 90’s.

Le Coq Sportif’s savoir-faire video from the 60’s
We found a 8mm old projector with an 8mm mute film in it. The camera was found in Romilly-sur-Seine at Mrs Camuset’s house. These are old pictures of our former factories in the 60’s when our factory and our warehouse were still in Romilly Sur-Seine (France).

Twitter is maybe one of the fastest growing phenomenon of the Internet of those past years. Ok, but what’s up with the fixed gear ? This is one of a kind trend we have here, it’s pretty sure that the fast growing of the fixed gear movement came thanks to the Internet.
Within about 2 years, hipsters all around the globe now want one of those mad machine. We should take note that the streets of Paris are not the one from San Francisco, you will need skills and nerves to ride down the Boulevard de Magenta in Paris during rush ours.
Is it grostesque ? No it’s Grotesk, please excuse this play on words, but he got it all and drew it with humour !
